Starting off the Family Trek

In the beginning.......
This is my first blog which will be focused on family history search. Essentially genealogy through building my family's tree(s), but also understanding the history of the various places and periods of previous generations.

I am retired in my sixties, but my interest in my family's past started in high school. First, history was my best and favorite subject. Second, my Mother gave me a box of letters and other papers which had been passed down from my second great grandfather, Jacob Ham of Lennox and Addington, Ontario. Included in the collection of old mail and documents were several dozen photographs dating from the 1860's. I was hooked and spent many library hours of research to build a family tree to connect these ancestors to each other.

For the past  40 years, I have been in and out of tree building with long breaks to finish grad school, raise two fine young people and work. The technology and material available for family research has exploded since my first queries many years ago. What was a keen interest has become a passion to learn and connect with others. So in looking for a name for my Blog, I call it a "Trek" since it has been a long road, with many stops or breaks along the way. My Trek has taken me from British Columbia to Minnesota, Philadelphia, Massachusetts and back to Canada, then later overseas to Ireland and Germany.
